After more than two decades, H&R Block has left the commercial space at 233 North Market Street. The vintage lighted sign is still there, but we are pleased to announce that Chappelle Candle Co is expanding and moving from their former downtown location.
New floors, lighting, drywall and fresh paint, await Amira Rittelmeyer's Grand Opening this weekend. What started as a hobby has blossomed into a full-time business for our local candlemaker. "In 2020, I was giving away candles for the holidays. By the end of the year, everyone I knew had three candles and I realized that they just weren't using them as fast as I was!" she jokes.
She posted on FaceBook and gathered some orders. "That was fun, but I realized that maybe I could grow my hobby and work at this full-time," she relates. What came next was a pop up market and getting her candles into Vintage MC. "Then I was opening my own location in downtown Frederick. I knew that I could not fill it with just candles, so I reached out to other makers and artists."
She learned that there were other people out there from her market experiences who were looking for that same kind of exposure, so she set up a consignment model to help other new businesses get up and running with some profits to assist them with their own ability to grow themselves.
Her shop at 223 North Market will bring in more decor in addition to her candles and other items handmade by local makers and artists.
Chappelle Candle Co. & Home Decor held their Ribbon Cutting and had their Grand Opening last weekend. Hours are Wednesday - Fri: 12pm - 5pm, Saturday: 11am - 6pm and Sunday: 12pm - 5pm.
